Here are the competitions listed down:
- Story Telling
- Preliminary Round - March 2008
- State Level Finals - 10th May 2008
- National Level - 9th-12th June 2008, Selangor.
- One student is chosen from the upper primary to represent the school in this annual competition.
- Upper primary ranges from Years 4 - 6
- One must be able to express herself brilliantly in order to captivate the attention of the judges and enabling them to relate to the story told.
- Proper and CORRECT English must be used (pronounciation, inunciation, grammar, etc..)
- So parents, if you think your child has got what it takes to bring her audience along in a journey of fairy tales and adventures, kindly PROVE it to us. Hehe.
- Farah Amani bt Adbul Razak is a former student of SKCBN1 who was the only participant to walk away with both national level English Story Telling Champion and Johan Bercerita Bahasa Melayu. It's time to repeat history my friends!
- Public Speaking
- Preliminary Round - March 2008
- State Level Finals - 10th May 2008
- National Level - 12th-14th August 2008, Sabah.
- One student is chosen from the upper primary to represent the school in this annual competition.
- Upper primary ranges from Years 4 - 6
- Public Speaking is divided into two compulsory presentations; prepared speech and impromptu speech.
- Prepared speech: participants are to prepare a speech on a certain topic and elaborate on it.
- For example: Chocolate Is Good For You.
- The participant has to present facts and good reasoning in order to defend and elaborate on her topic.
- Impromptu speech: participants are given a topic on the spot and are given some time to brainstorm on the topic. They then have to present their speech.
- For example: topic given - HEROES.
- The participant brainstorms on what to say about the topic HEROES. It's very subjective so one can talk about superheroes, their parents, teachers, etc...
- Spelling Competition
- Preliminary Round - March
- State Level Finals - 10th May 2008
- National Level - 14th-16th October 2008, Putrajaya
- Two students are chosen from the upper primary to represent the school.
- This year will be the first time the Education Department is organizing this competition.
- Students are to spell words given by the Master Speller. Hesitation (errr, ahhh, umm) will cause the participant to be disqualified.
- Spellers can only spell the word ONCE. No correction is allowed.
- Spellers are encouraged to repeat the word given by the Master Speller, spell the word, and then say the word again.
- Action Song
- Preliminary Round - April 2008
- State Level Finals - 10th May 2008
- National Level - 9th-12th June, Selangor.
- At last, something for the little ones... ;)... 15 students are chosen from the LOWER primary, Years 1-3, to represent the school in this short musical.
- Each team is to present an English song with appropriate lyrics and grammar, with actions. The music must be a minus-1 track with NO VOCALS and time allocated is 5-8 minutes. Participants are required to sing the song themselves. Appropriate costumes and props are allowed.
- Performance has to emphasize on the usage of proper and correct English.
- Choral Speaking
- Preliminary Round - April 2008
- State Level Finals - 10th May 2008
- National Level - 14th-16th July 2008, Terengganu.
- 35 students are chosen from the upper primary to represent the school in this horrifying, yet exciting competition.
- The choral text must be originally written. Time allocated is 5-8 minutes.
- A conductor is chosen among the team members to lead and guide the others to recite the memorized text in unison.
- Every year schools from all over Malaysia will look forward to this annual competition, practicing their hearts out just to land themselves in National Level.
- SKCBN1 has been the defending state champion in this competition for 7 consecutive years and 2 years national choral speaking champion.
- Our former conductor, Aishah Ahmed bt Motawh, was given the National Level Best Conductor Award for 3 consecutive years.
- Let's pray that this year our girls will be able to uphold the glory of SKCBN1's CHORAL SPEAKING TEAM. ONE TEAM, ONE VOICE!
